Janel was born and raised in the Bronx in New York City. Her love for progressive education began as a child while attending Bank Street School for Children throughout her Elementary school years and LREI Elisabeth Irwin High School. Janel continued her journey in education by earning her B.A. in Communication Disorders at the University of Connecticut and then pursuing her path as an educator earning a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood General and Special Education from Bank Street College in New York City. She has enjoyed teaching in a variety of private progressive schools and a charter school in New York, and teaching a variety of age groups from 3-9. After ambitiously taking the opportunity to support the opening of a start-up progressive elementary school in the Middle East, she was able to take on a variety of leadership roles in and out of the classroom. Janel is now moving back to the United States and is very excited for new beginnings in Providence, Rhode Island. You can find Janel exploring and getting acquainted with what Rhode Island has to offer and spending time with friends and family.
